This morning we had Meeting for Worship. Before we begin going over to the Meeting House, we will practice with the other early childhood classes and kindergartners in the music room. We gathered in a circle in our classroom to discuss what Meeting for Worship is, and explained that it is a place for us to settle our bodies, listen to what our bodies have to tell us, and if you feel there is something in your mind or heart you would like to share then you can stand up and share your thoughts with the group. After our circle, we lined up and walked down to meet the other friends in the music room for Meeting.
Today our schedule reader lead us in morning meeting and put the number 6 in our hundreds chart to represent the 6th day of school.
After morning meeting, we walked down to art class to meet Amanda. Friends sat around the big table in the art room and played Just Like Me. Amanda asked friends what they like to draw and after each response the Sparrows put their hands up and said, "Just like me!" Amanda went first and said, "My name is Amanda and I like to draw rocket ships."
Here are what the Sparrows said they like to draw:
Asha- A bunny
Millie- Astronauts
Jaylen- Firetrucks
Thea- Cheetahs
Jessica- Ponies
Gracie- Unicorns
Zev- Superheroes
Lincoln- Astronauts
Henry- Eggplants
Dylan- Cookies
Natey- Superhero
Vivian- Astronauts
Amanda explained that today we would be painting. She showed us how to wet the paintbrush in the water, and then dry it's hair off on the sides. Amanda told us that wetting the brush helps get the paint ready to go.
Once the brush was wet, hair was dry, and paint ready, Amanda showed friends how the paintbrush is like a ballerina dancing on its tippy toes.
Before going over to their spots at the other tables, friends learned that it is very important to make sure to give the brush a bath when you want to switch to a new color. Friends used red, blue, and yellow paints.
The Sparrows went off to their spots, put on smocks and got to work.
Ask your Sparrow what they painted in art class today.
Once friends were complete with their paintings, they gave their work a name. Amanda wrote the name on the paper, and then friends carried their masterpieces over to the drying rack.
There was a little bit of time left for free draw.
Back in the classroom, friends had choice time.
Friends chose between magnatiles...
...playdough...
...dollhouse...
...and drawing.
Building a garage for helicopters.
Landing the helicopter on the helipad.
A few friends presented their collages. The Sparrows raised quiet hands at the end of presentations for questions and comments.
Looking forward to seeing all of you at Back to School Night tomorrow!
Have a great evening!
