Making Mazes

This morning the Sparrows walked over to the Meeting House with their 4th grade partners. The Sparrows sat in silence with the rest of lower school. Must say, the Sparrows are becoming very good at sitting still and settling their bodies during this time. When we left the Meeting House, you could see and hear a visible difference in friends' bodies and awareness.
Upon coming back to the classroom, we had morning meeting and snack, and then soon got ready for art class.

Today in art, the Sparrows made mazes. At the tables, Amanda had each friend's station set up with their own piece of paper that already had paint spots on it. There were three spots of purple, three spots of pink, and three spots of light blue. Friends were asked to connect the coordinating colors to one another without mixing with another color! The Sparrows enjoyed this challenge, and figuring out how to maneuver their paintbrushes and paint so they did not cross paths.

Back in the classroom, friends took part in small group math and literacy activites. Friends practiced their one to one correspondence, counting and number recognition skills using the matching game pictured below.

Friends worked on uppercase and lowercase letter recognition with a game of letter bingo.

Some of the Sparrows chose to design and cutout paper snowflakes for our growing snowflake display on the windows.

Building a zoo out of magnatiles.

While playing letter bingo, friends were asked to identify the uppercase and lowercase letters, along with make the letter's sound and come up with a word that letter starts with. Fantastic job, Sparrows! You impress us everyday!

Ask your Sparrow what letter the word maze begins with and/or what sound the letter "M" makes.
