Literacy Fun

Today in music class, the Sparrows played with all kind of musical instruments. After exploring the instruments, friends sat in a circle and sang "The Cobbler" a few times. Back in a circle, Keisha gave two egg shakers to each student to sing and play "Washy Washy." While singing, Keisha named different parts of the body and friends pretended they were washing themselves, using the shakers as a soap.

Using the Smartboard, the teachers showed friends how to form the letters L, H, T, F, I, and E. Sparrows sounded out the letters and practiced writing them on the board as well.
Next, friends participated in a literacy workshop. This workshop consisted of three stations.

First station: Friends combined wooden lines and curves to form the letters L, H, I, E, F, and T. Then, friends traced the letter with fingers and sounded out the letter they formed. Some friends came up with words as well!

Some of the words were:
Flower
Frog
Lunch
Elephant
Hug
Tomato
Tyrannosaurus Re
Iguana
Elevator

Second Station: Friends traced the letters in their very own workbook. Before writing the letters, friends told us what type of lines they needed for each, then wrote the lines to form each letter.

Third station: Friends used their fingers to trace letters on sand. Sparrows not only practiced writing letters but also their own names. Friends also practiced the names of their classmates.

After a busy morning, the Sparrows were excited to go outside and play, especially with this beautiful weather. We decided to go to the soccer fields again, where we met with the Cardinals and had a great time running around all together.
