Today in music class Sparrows practiced the songs they will be singing at the show.
Back in the classroom Friends had watermelon, crackers and cheese for snack. Watermelon was a special treat since today is W letter day.
After Morning Meeting Friends sang the "Wheels on the bus." Then Friends built W letters using little blocks and watched a video with a catchy song of the letter W.
Soon after Sparrows listened to the book "Wild about us" by Karen Beaumont. It was a funny story with a lots of W words.
To end with the W letter activities Friends used Water color paint to create beautiful designs and drawings.
Sparrows continued adding paper mache to their "Djembe" drums, that soon will be ready to paint.
Friends played in small groups with manipulatives and puzzles, then switched places so everybody had a turn with all the table games.
Sparrows had the opportunity to listen to the sound of a real African Djambe drum and play with it.
A djembe or jembe is a rope-tuned skin-covered goblet drum played with bare hands, originally from West Africa. According to the Bambara people in Mali, the name of the djembe comes from the saying "Anke djé, anke bé" which translates to "everyone gather together in peace" and defines the drum's purpose. In the Bambara language, "djé" is the verb for "gather" and "bé" translates as "peace.
