Read Alouds

Weekend News

Lincoln- I played with my brother a game called race the mice. Me and Toby watched a movie in the car. We watched Hotel Transylvania 3. It was funny.

Thea- I went outside. I played soccer with daddy and Quinn at my house. I went to the store and got milk with daddy. Daddy drived the car to the milk store.

Zev- One thing I did was watch iPad. I watched Blippi. Yesterday it was a home day and a different day it's going to be a Zev day. That's a day when I get to go to Chicago and see my bubby and zayde. Then I just took it easy.

Asha- I played with Savi and I played with all my cousins. Grandmom was going to my cousins house. We saw Margaret at our house. She is mommy's friend.

Dylan- I was sleeping and I laid on the couch and I ate Cheerios. I went to a restaurant with mommy and daddy and Barrett. We went there first and then gigi and pop-pop and aunt Fran and Aunt Deb came to the restaurant. I got chicken and spaghetti and white rice. Mommy gave me my new keychains at the restaurant.

Jessica- We went to get the balloons at the festival. We saw the horses dance and I got a balloon, my face painted, a spiderweb and lipstick.

Jaylen- I played ball with daddy. I kicked the ball to daddy. I go out to eat to Panera. I got mac 'n' cheese and yogurt.

Natey- I go to the park. I watched a movie. I played with my tablet. I played with Jonah and Reesey.

Millie- I played with mommy and daddy. I played with my Ethan. We played with the box of toys. I like the stuffed animal one. It's a monkey stuffed animal. I usually sleep with it.

Henry- I wrote a book that was called "I Want My Umbrella Back." I went to a playdate.

During morning meeting, we read Cheetahs. We learned some interesting facts about the fastest animals on land. Friends looked at a map of Africa and saw the parts where cheetahs live. Friends learned how their spots help them hide in the tall grasslands. The Sparrows liked learning that cheetahs look like they are wearing sunglasses. This feature helps protect their eyes from the sun.

Ask your Sparrow why cheetahs have black lines like sunglasses around their eyes.

Throughout and after reading, friends raised their hands to answer comprehension questions and give comments. A friend shared that they see cheetahs at the zoo.

After our group read aloud, friends went off into choice time.

Below friends built a pair of robots.

Building a cage for the animals.

Connecting houses together.

Some friends departed for Chicago, while other friends took off for Africa.

Later this morning, we had some visitors to our classroom. Jaylen's mom and sisters, Cherie, Sadie and Kaya, came to read us stories and do an art activity.

Kaya read In My Heart, which is a book about feelings and how your heart may feel when you feel different emotions.
Some friends shared how their hearts were feeling.

Next, Sadie read Pete the Cat I Love My White Shoes. The Sparrows love Pete the Cat books. The story had a catchy rhythm.

Following reading, friends took to the tables to do a drawing activity. Each Sparrow chose a colored piece of paper and got to work. Friends LOVED the glitter paint markers and pens that Jaylen's family brought. Friends also chose from a wide selection of stickers to decorate their drawings with.
Make sure to check your Sparrows mailbox for their artwork!

As requested, we played freeze dance once friends were finished with the art activity.

We had such a great time with Jaylen's mom and sisters. Friends enjoyed listening to the books read aloud and getting to create their own drawings with "fancy" materials. Thank you Cherie, Sadie and Kaya for coming to spend time with us!
During appreciation circle a friend asked, "Can they come back?"

If you would like to come into the classroom for a visit and/or to do an activity, please reach out! We love having family and friends in our classroom!
