Learning the library and our jobs!

Weekend News

Each Monday the Sparrows give their weekend news! We sit down with each student and take their dictation. This is a great way for the Sparrows to work on their recall, verbal language, and comprehension.

Vivian- I had a sleepover with my grandma and then tonight I'm going to have a sleepover with my aunt. I played with my uncle and I played with my grandpa.

Henry- I go to the Y and do swimming lessons and family swim. I played battleship with my daddy.

Gracie- I went to Nate and Adam and Rachel and Nanny's house, and Dan. We was playing the ball monster. It wasn't a ball monster but it was a ball monster game. Also, daddy came, and mommy came, and Lev came, and me! That's all of us. We had a dinner and we played.

Asha- I played with my baby a little bit. We went to soccer on Saturday. I like to wear a t-shirt and shorts.

Natey- I watched tv. I watched Ninja Turtles. It was raining. I didn't go outside.

Millie- I played all weekend. I played with my brother. I played with toys.

Thea- I played with my doggy. I went to Vivi's house a lot of times. I made some playdough with grano.

Lincoln- We went to Boston. We got toys and dinosaurs. We saw gigi. We went to a hotel, come back to gigi's house, go back to hotel and we have a sleepover. We went to the pool at gigi's house.

Jessica- We went to Chuck E. Cheese. We played the bike game and AJ kept winning. I kept crying too because I didn't get a chance to win. I got a lot of tickets and I got a toy and it was lollipop. We got a new puppy. It's named Bailey.

This morning the Sparrows went to library. There, Michelle read us the book My Name is Yoon.
After our group read aloud, friends were free to explore the library, looking at the books Michelle set out on the table. Once a Sparrow found a book they liked and found interesting, they took the book over to Michelle for her to check out.

After library, we came back to the classroom for friends to continue with their morning choices. Soon enough we had snack and then morning meeting. During morning meeting, one of the Sparrow's read over our daily schedule, calendar and hundreds chart. The attendance person read over the question of the day and counted the responses, comparing which responses had the most and least.

Today, we also went over our classroom job chart!
Ask your Sparrow what their job is this week.

Friends also worked on their September self-portraits. Each month, the Sparrows will complete a self-portrait. This is a wonderful way to work on fine motor skills, as well as self-awareness and recognize similarities and differences. It is so neat to see these portraits evolve throughout the year as they become more precise and detail oriented!
