Harvest Fest

Today's Harvest Fest celebrations began with signing a card for Tricia's birthday! Friends chose the color marker they liked and wrote their names inside the card. Once all friends signed their names, we walked over to the office to give it to Tricia.

When we got to the office, the Sparrows stopped on the rug and wished Tricia a happy birthday. Tricia loved the card, and also loved our Harvest Fest shirts! The Sparrows took great pride in showing off our T-shirts.
On the count of three we sang Happy Birthday to Tricia! Friends gave hugs and then got back in line to walk back to our classroom.

On our way out of the office, we bumped into a mermaid!

When we got back to the room, we listened to the Monster Mash, which was a total hit! Soon after, friends gathered near our Africa map to help put their animals where they are located on the savanna. Sparrows named the continent we are studying, Africa, and then using pictures and map keys in books and on the computer, pointed to where their animal can be found on the African savanna.

Soon it was time for the main event...HARVEST FEST! Decked out in our tees, friends got ready to walk out to the festival. The excitement in the air could be felt the moment friends entered the classroom this morning. When we got outside, most friends hit the snack table first and then were off to take part in the days activities.

Ask your Sparrow what they enjoyed about Harvest Fest.

Pumpkins and Problem Solving

This morning in Spanish, after we did our weekly routine, friends reviewed snack items with Alicia. Following the brief review, Alicia gave us the cards with the pictures and words to keep in our classroom!
Next, friends went over the colors, and sang the color song to the tune of Frere Jacques

Ask your Sparrow to sing it to you.
"Red is rojo, green is verde, blue azul, black negro, yellow amarillo, purple morado, grey is gris, brown cafe."

After singing, the Sparrows discussed our study and their animales. Friends practiced saying all of the types of animals in Spanish. Friends did their best with repeating and pronouncing the Spanish words.
After going over the animals names, friends played Matamoscas.
We played with the cheetah, hippopotamus, black rhinoceros, white rhinoceros and African leopard cards.

Today, the Sparrows decorated their "very best pumpkins." Friends chose from a variety of materials to personalize their pumpkins. Items to choose from included different color string and pompoms, small foam and paper shapes, googly eyes, feathers, and markers. Each friend added their own special touches to their "very best pumpkin." The pumpkins are displayed at the front of our classroom on top of the cubby shelves. Make sure to take a look!
Soon friends will create stories about their "very best pumpkin."

This afternoon we had a guest reader...Paula! Paula came in to share in the Fall fun and help us get ready for Harvest Fest tomorrow! Paula read Ladybug Girl and the Dress-up Dilemma. Friends learned the meaning of the word dilemma, and followed along as Paula read about Lulu, the dilemmas she faced, and how she solved those dilemmas.
Ask your Sparrow what a dilemma is.

Tomorrow is Harvest Fest! When your child arrives at school tomorrow they can put on their T-shirt that was made here at school! As a reminder, the event will take place on our playground, the Redbud Playground, from 10:00-11:30. Hope to see you there!

Dress up day!
