A Day Of Celebration

Today was a very busy and exciting day!!! Friends celebrated 100 days of school and Saint Valentine's day as well!
Sparrows were so happy today during Morning Meeting. The 100 days of school chart is finally completed!.
After Music, Sparrows enjoyed a delicious and special snack with chocolate chip muffins and fruit.
Then Friends made and decorated envelopes for the Valentines they received at the end of the day. They decorated head bands with the number 100 on them. They made necklaces with a 100 foot loops cereal and they got to eat them as soon as they were done!... Some pieces of cereal were eaten during the process too.. but Sparrows thought the teachers didn't realize ;)
Sparrows also wrote and decorated heart shaped cards for their families and friends,
they wrote and drew a page of their Journals. Today the assignment was: "I wish I had a 100..."
Finally the moment we have all been waiting for arrived! Sparrows gathered together in the Morning Meeting rug and shared their Valentines with each other.
Friends felt happy and loved.
Happy Valentine Day!

The house we were in was Casey's new house. We played. Guess what?! Dylan gave me and Casey goodie bags. There was all golden stuff and that's the end!

We first had a playdate with Cora.

Today the Sparrows began a new project, which soon will be displayed in our classroom art gallery. To go with our African theme study, friends learned about African masks. We looked at different masks, mostly from East and West Africa and learned about their significance.

1. Believed to have special powers.
2. Communicate with family.
3. Protection.
4. Celebrate getting older.
5. Worn during dances and ceremonies.

Ask your Sparrow what masks are used for.

To begin, friends rotated throughout the drawing table to draw the outline of their masks on cardboard. The teachers then cut out the drawings. Once the masks were cut out, friends once again cycled throughout, but this time painting the background of their mask.

Friends conversed with one another while painting, talking about the color they chose, the shapes they drew, and other miscellaneous topics.

The Sparrows socialized, all while working on their motor skills, creativity and technique.

Once the masks are dry, friends will add details to make their mask's even more unique, just like their unique selves.
Make sure to check our art gallery in the days to come for a new exhibit!

Also happening today...the opening of our house!

During choice, friends decided to make artwork to hang inside the house.

Stitches and Beads

Today in Art class Amanda gave the Sparrows a plastic canvas, strings and beads. Then she explained how to do needlepoint, using a needle especially designed for kids.
Friends created their own design using a lot of colorful beads and two different colors of wool string.
Friends not only had fun with this creative activity but also exercised fine motor skills and eye/hand coordination.

Dress up day!
